Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District

Fort Lauderdale is an international destination for those seeking sunshine with a cultural flair, and its Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment (A&E) District’s mission is to promote the city’s multi-faceted cultural tourism to people around the globe. A unique collaboration of arts and entertainment organizations located along the New River in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Riverwalk A&E District’s partners include Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Grand Opera, Fort Lauderdale History Center, Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Historic Stranahan House Museum, and its newest partner, Bonnet House Museum & Gardens.

Spanning 22 blocks, the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District holds some of Fort Lauderdale’s top attractions. You’ll find the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, the Nova Southeastern University Art Museum, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Florida Grand Opera, and the Historic Stranahan House Museum, in addition to many restaurants, green spaces, movie theaters and shops. The district is set along the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale and is a lovely place to stroll or sit on a bench with a cup of coffee. It also encompasses Las Olas Boulevard, where you will find many shopping, dining and nightlife venues. Recent travelers said they enjoyed the views along the river and found the paved stretch to be a perfect place to go for a walk. Additionally, many recommended hopping on the free Riverwalk Water Trolley, which operates like a bus system with eight different stops along the river’s north and south banks. The water trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day and can be requested by calling 954-TROLLEY. Riders can also track the location of the water trolley using the Sun Trolley Tracker app, or simply waiting 20 to 30 minutes at the nearest stop.

For a full list of all the events taking place within the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, visit its official website. There you will find a combination of daily events (such as guided tours of the area’s various historical homes) and special events like concerts, wine and food tours and more. Parking is available at various public garages nearby.

As the cultural epicenter of Ft. Lauderdale, the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District offers something for every creative taste. Fans of Broadway can take in a show at the acclaimed Broward Center for the Performing Arts, a majestic complex that overlooks the New River. Art lovers will want to spend a few hours roaming the NSU Art Museum, which displays works from its permanent collection (more than 6,000 paintings from a broad range of periods) as well as traveling national and international exhibits. And families will enjoy the Museum of Discovery and Science, a wonderland of educational and interactive activities for kids and adults alike, plus live animal exhibits and an IMAX 3-D theater.
