Cinema Paradiso

The Cinema “Paradiso” is one of Florida’s best art house movie theaters. Along with worldwide blockbuster premieres, the theater hosts the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. During this festival, the cinema features art house films, documentaries, foreign films, classic films, and independent movies that can only be seen in Florida. Cinema “Paradiso” is also a place to see local filmmakers and celebrities. For nearly 30 years, southern Florida has been home to the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, which screens 100 or so films for two weeks in November. The rest of the year, art-house movie fans (or those seeking a rainy-day activity) can get tickets for Cinema Paradiso.

The original theater (and festival headquarters) is in a converted church in Fort Lauderdale, while a satellite theater in downtown Hollywood opened in 2013. Go there for a mix of foreign, indie, and documentary films, as well as beer and wine with your popcorn. Cinema Paradiso – Hollywood is a no-profit Indie Arthouse cinema showing films from around the world. We serve Beer & Wine, soft drinks & the best popcorn

Parking is free in Downtown Hollywood for the first 3 hours and any time beginning from 5pm and after. There are also two large parking garages within a 3 – 5 minute walk to the cinema with parking $1/hour. After the success of the Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale (renamed Savor Cinema in 2016), this second location opened in a storefront in downtown Hollywood in 2013.

As stated in the “About“ section of the theater‘s Facebook page: “Cinema Paradiso – Hollywood is a no-profit Indie Arthouse cinema showing films from around the world. They have state-of-the-art digital projection and comfy, stadium seating. They serve Beer & Wine, plus soft drinks & movie food.” Both locations also serve as two of the venues for the annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF). The decision to open Cinema Paradiso as a quirky storefront at 2008 Hollywood Blvd. in 2013 was an easy one, Von Hausch says. The theater was surrounded by a rich menu of international cafes and bars, with apartments and condominiums both built and imminent, and competition inconvenient. Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale is well regarded for its blend of independent and foreign films, first-run commercial releases and themed events on its patio. Each fall, Von Hausch’s three-week film festival includes hundreds of screenings, with visits from filmmakers and stars, at several theaters in Broward County. FLIFF chairman Alan Koslow called the new Cinema Paradiso “the missing ingredient” in Hollywood Boulevard’s mix of restaurants, stores and cultural offerings. “Downtown Hollywood is on the precipice of greatness,” he said.
